Tennessee State Little League Umpire in Chief

Lawrence began his umpire career in 1985 at Logan Civic Little League in Logan, WV under the mentorship of Harold McMillan. He has served as District UIC for Tennessee District 9 for 20 years.

Lawrence umpired the 2003 Big League Baseball Regional in Dunedin FL and the 2004 Junior League Baseball Regional in Cartersville GA. He has also umpired the 2006 Junior League Baseball World Series in Taylor, MI in which he was assigned home plate for the US Championship between Hawaii and Texas. In 2018 he umpired the Senior League Baseball World Series in Easley SC. Lawrence was awarded the Golden Mask Award in 2016. Lawrence and his wife Trudy reside in Burns TN and have 7 children and 9 wonderful grandchildren.

Phil has served as a Little League volunteer umpire for over 35 years as well as served as District Administrator for Tennessee District 6 from 2005-2008. Phil was selected to umpire the Little League

Baseball Southern Region tournament in St. Pete, Florida in 2000, the Little League

Baseball European Region tournament in Kutno, Poland in 2002, and the Little League Baseball World Series in Williamsport in 2004. He was honored in having been selected as the plate umpire for the Championship game between California and Curacao in 2004.

Phil continues to umpire at the local league level, as well as district and state tournaments.
